The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has again conveyed that 19 coastal areas in Indonesia have the potential to be hit by coastal flooding, aka tidal flooding.

The Head of the BMKG Maritime Meteorology Center, Eko Prasetyo, said that the potential for tidal flooding in 19 coastal areas in Indonesia was due to the phase of the highest sea tide which caused an increase in sea level height.

Simultaneously, there is a Super Full Moon phenomenon in Indonesia, namely, the full moon phase on June 14, 2022. It means that there is the potential for tidal flooding in several areas in Indonesia.

Based on BMKG monitoring from water level data and tidal predictions. The coastal flood (rob) has the potential to occur in 19 coastal areas in Indonesia starting June 11, 2022, and ending June 23, 2022.

"Based on altimetry satellite imagery, sea level shows a positive anomaly that has the potential to cause higher coastal flooding," he said in a press release from BMKG, Bandung, Wednesday, June 15, 2022.

"This condition coincides with the highest tide phase on June 14, 2022, which has the potential to cause an increase in sea level height and the Super Full Moon phenomenon," he continued.

According to Eko Prasetyo, each region has a different potential for coastal flooding (rob) at different times (days and hours).

Even so, the potential for coastal flooding or tidal waves in several parts of Indonesia can disrupt the community's daily activities, especially around ports and coasts.

"Such as loading and unloading activities at ports, activities in coastal settlements as well as salt pond activities and inland fisheries," he said.

Therefore, he said, the public is urged to be alert to anticipate the impact of the maximum sea water tide, aka rob.

The following areas have the potential to be hit by coastal flooding, aka rob, including;

1. Aceh Coast
2. North Sumatra Coast
3. West Coast of Sumatra Coast
4. Kepulauan Riau Coast
5. Bangka Belitung Coast
6. Bandar Lampung Coast
7. North Coast of DKI Jakarta
8. North Coast of West Java
9. South Coast of Cilacap
10. South Coast of Yogyakarta
11. East Java Coast
12. South Coast of Bali
13. West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Coast
14. East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Coast
15. West Coast of West Kalimantan
16. South Coast of Central Kalimantan
17. South Kalimatan Coast
18. Maluku
19. Papua Coast
