Jakarta (ANTARA) - Residents of Pana village in Timor Tengah Selatan Regency (TTS), East Nusa Tenggara Province, can now enjoy clean water thanks to the construction of a water pump by the Regional Military Command (Kodam) IX/Udayana.

The construction of this water pump began when a number of areas in NTT experienced a long dry season that had occurred since March 2020.

"Before there was a water pump to take clean water, every day we had to walk through steep and steep hills to get to the spring. It could only meet our daily needs. Meanwhile, to irrigate our agricultural land, we could only depend on the season. it's raining," said a resident of Pana Village, Roni Y Taopan in Pana Village, Thursday.

He said the benefits felt by the residents of Pana Village with this water pump were being able to grow crops without depending on the rainy season.

"When there is a water pump, we can plant more. In the past we only farmed for our own consumption. But now we can sell it because the vegetables are fresher after they are flushed with clean water from the water pump," he said.

Roni admits to Antara, that he can get around Rp. 800,000 to Rp. 1,000,000 for one harvest. It used to be only around Rp. 200,000.

Pana Village Secretary, Simring Taopan, said the community could now focus more on farming, going to school, and weaving.

"One water tank is intended to meet the needs of every six families. Water tanks are also provided near people's agricultural land for irrigation as well as in several public facilities such as places of worship and schools. They no longer need to worry about clean water for their families," he said. .

Pangdam IX/Udayana, Major General TNI Maruli Simanjuntak said this water pump development initiative was an effort to provide solutions and take a role in overcoming the clean water crisis in order to meet the daily basic needs of the local community.

Now, as many as 1,726 residents in Pana Village can enjoy access to clean water which also has a positive impact on the economy.

"I hope that the people of Pana Village, NTT can maximize this clean water for a healthier life and drive economic activity," he said.

The Military Commander also appreciated Shopee's efforts for supporting the clean water pump development program for residents in NTT.

Shopee Indonesia's Head of Public Affairs, Radynal Nataprawira, said the construction of the water pump was Shopee's effort to help improve the welfare of people's lives and provide solutions to meet the needs of clean water.

"We hope that with the fulfillment of basic needs, residents can live a better social life and can stimulate economic activity in Pana Village," said Radynal. (INF)
