PT. Bangun Solusindo Perkasa is a company that provides high-quality building materials and provides reliable services through innovative building solutions, increased efficiency, and efforts to promote a sustainable future. Focusing on the drainage industry by partnering with two drainage principals from Germany, HAURATON & GRAF, we hope to improve the well-being of the clients we serve by combining our experience, technical expertise, and local knowledge. With more than 120 years of combined knowledge and expertise in the industry, we believe we can contribute to sustainable development and improve the places and spaces in which we live, work and play by balancing the opportunities and challenges that affect the urban design and community development. Our approach is to manage surface water by considering the quantity of water to prevent flooding, inundation, and groundwater recharge; water quality to prevent pollution, and aesthetic design of drainage systems by including as many environmentally friendly materials as possible in our products.

    Solution for Welang River:

#1 River dredging, River widening, Water retention (Room for the River)

Royal HaskoningDHV is proud to be part of the Room for the River program. We are involved in most (including the most complex) Rooms for the River projects. Our involvement encompasses scoping studies, environmental impact assessment, design and engineering, procurement, and supervision of works. We apply the “Nature Driven Design” principles to ensure the sustainability of the developed measures. We use the integrated project management approach to assure the smooth progress of the complex processes involved in the planning and execution of the works.

    Room for the River Projects:

Water retention in Lake Volkerak-Zoom (8,300 hectares)
In the southwest delta of the Rhine and Meuse: A total storage of 200 million m3 water will be used to safeguard the delta in the event that exceptionally high river discharge coincides with a severe North Sea storm. The project was particularly complex due to the many responsible governmental entities involved, the extensive project area situated at the crossline of the river and sea influence, and the large number of structures requiring adaptation.

    Improving Vietnams inland waterways transport
Vietnam’s Ministry of Transport needed to address the navigability for coastal shipping in the Red River Delta in Vietnam - specifically in relation to the Day River and Ninh Co River waterways in order to link the river ports of Hanoi and Ninh Binh with the coastal port of Vietnam.

#2 Sludge / sediment material management

Water (resource) management deals with water operations by which we aim to control water levels, water flows and water quality; managing water distribution both in time, space and level to prevent too little water (droughts) or too much water (floods). With water resource management we focus on fresh water for water supply e.g. for drinking water or agriculture. Water management as part of flood management focuses on reducing water levels to reduce flood risks.

Water Management masterplan protects communities in Indonesia

The Separi Mining Site owned by Sakari Resources produces two brands of thermal coal in a multi-pit operation. The site covers more than 12,000 hectare and is located near to Samarinda, the Capital City of East Kalimantan Province in Indonesia. Sudasi Harsono, Resident Manager, explains "The mining activities upstream also increase the rate of sediment transport in the Separi Anak Rivers. We decided that these problems – floods, droughts and heavy sedimentation – should be addressed through river improvements and water quality control.”
In order to put an effective water management plan in place, JMB commissioned Mitra Lingkungan Dutaconsult (MLD), in partnership with Royal HaskoningDHV Indonesia, to provide consultancy services, marking the first time these companies have collaborated. The scope of the project included the establishment of a Water Masterplan (2012-2017) and the detailed design for the plan year 2012, to support JMB developments at the Separi Site.

Dam Synchronisation and Flood Releases in the Zambezi River Basin

The JV of Royal HaskoningDHV, Rankin Engineering, Deltares and WR Nyabeze and Associates had a strong representation of team members from the region, with in depth local know how. International consultants supported the local team. Study of the hydrological and operating data, site visits and interviews with stakeholders were conducted. An Advisory Group with a wide representation of government departments was actively involved in formulating the project recommendations. Royal HaskoningDHV was the lead partner and responsible for the outputs on Recommendations for Flow Forecasting and Investments

    #4 Early warning system (EWS)

Forecasting builds upon data and insights gained via monitoring, risk identification, risk mapping and risk assessment of all kinds of natural hazards. When at a certain moment a trigger level is reached, for example rising or lowering of water levels or wind forces, the preparation for disaster and crisis management starts.

    Early Warning Project:

Flash Flood warning by phone, Accra, Ghana

With climate change and urbanisation leading to more flash floods and increasing impact, this is a solution which connects directly with local people’s lives – most Ghanaians have a mobile phone. “Besides structural measures we need innovative early warning systems that empower authorities, but also industries and inhabitants, to become more pro-active and reduce damage and casualties.” said Dr. Hanneke Schuurmans water expert at Royal HaskoningDHV.

    #5 Ecosystem services

The interest in Green infrastructure, Nature based solutions, Building with nature, Nature Driven Design or Green-Blue solutions is growing rapidly. The base concept is using the forces of natural processes as an opportunity to tackle socio-environmental challenges like climate change, water security and flood risk. The use of natural processes leads to greener, more sustainable and costeffective solutions. Solutions in which society, ecology and economy all benefit.

Nature-based solutions for Lauwersmeer dike reinforcement

In 1969, now already more than 50 years ago, the tidal estuary Lauwers Sea was closed off from the Wadden Sea. After the flood of 1953, which inundated large parts of the southwest of the Netherlands, the coastal protection along the entire coast was improved. The initial plan proposed by Rijkswaterstaat (Dutch national water authority) was to raise existing flood defences of the Lauwers Sea. Local stakeholders, mainly aiming at improving agricultural conditions, demonstrated against this plan. Therefore, the government chose to create a freshwater lake, the Lauwersmeer by constructing the Lauwersmeer dam.

Location Lauwers Sea, the Wadden Sea, the Netherlands
Challenge To find solutions which enhanced the border of the Wadden Sea, whilst fulfilling flood protection requirements
Solution Investigating and understanding the morphology and ecology of the Wadden Sea along the Lauwersdam

    #6 Infrastructure financing

Royal HaskoningDHV uses nature-based solutions to strengthen Antananarivo's flood resilience

Royal HaskoningDHV has successfully completed a pre-feasibility study intended to enhance climate resilience and urban living conditions in the poorest and most vulnerable neighbourhoods of Antananarivo, the capital city of Madagascar.
Funded by the World Bank, the Integrated Urban Development and Resilience Project (PRODUIR) uses a combination of drainage and flood infrastructure upgrades, improvements in urban living conditions, and enhanced urban governance and disaster preparedness.
Royal HaskoningDHV, along with lead research institute Deltares and partners BoschSlabbers, and Evolutis, performed a comprehensive assessment and pre-feasibility study on urban resilience adaptation strategies for the area. These strategies integrated nature-based solutions (NbS) and disaster evacuation planning to increase flood resilience and enhance living conditions in low-income neighbourhoods.

    CLIMATE RESILIENCE TOOLING

    Global Flood Risk Tool
The Global Flood Risk Tool (GFRT) is a cloud-based platform that delivers accurate and comprehensible flood risk analysis and recommends investment proposals to reduce the risk of losing lives and economic damages. The tool enables informed decision-making for increasing flood resilience of an urban area or industrial site.
    The tool comprises five steps:
Flood Hazard > Flood Damage > Flood Risk > Flood Measures > Business Case
These five steps operate independently from each other, making the tool applicable for a wider audience and facilitating the use of external data such as detailed hydraulic models results, costs databases, various scenarios for development and measures.
